Rosie vs. Posy
My husband and I are finding it extremely hard to pick between these names. He likes Rosie, (whereas I don’t) I would much rather lean towards Posy. I know many little girls called Rosie and never one called posy. I love the uniqueness about it and it just seems so timeless, I would like nothing more than to give our daughter a name that is a little different. Do you think I should go with my husband’s choice? Or stick to my own? Thanks. -Annaclaire

I also prefer Posy, but does your husband like it?
It’s one thing if he likes Rosie and Posy and you like Posy more/dislike Rosie. It’s another if you like Posy and dislike Rosie, and he likes Rosie but dislikes Posy.
Have you considered Primrose? It could easily have the nickname Rosie or Posy, but is also probably as unusual as Posy just in and of itself.

I love the name Primrose, but DH thinks it associates with the hunger games too much.
Hubby likes both names, but prefers Rosie. I love Posy an[removed]ot fond of Rosie whatsoever.

Posy makes me think of the character in The Dirty Dozen, Rosie is a nn, but Rose would be nice or some other flower name that is neither of the above like Violet, Linnea, Azalea, Magnolia, Lily, Daisy, Hyacinth, Marigold, or Fern

In my opinion Posy just does seem like a name for a child or woman.

I love both Rosie and Posy. I know a few Rosies who had that as their full name, so I see it as a stand alone name than just a nickname. I’ve never met a Posy but it’s so adorable and sweet and different. Both names are winners in my eyes. Maybe you can do Rosie Josephine (Posy is a nn for Josephine and you can call her that while your husband uses Rosie) or Posy with a middle name related to Rosie.

That’s a shame about Primrose.
Posy is also a character in the Hunger Games, although she is a minor character.
I know a Rosemary whose nickname is Posy, so that could work.
Since he likes both, I would go with Posy. It started as a nickname for Josephine, if you did want longer versions. Or you could compromise with Josie?

Posy can be a nickname for any flower name. Posy literally means "A flower or bunch of flowers; a bouquet." So you could go with Rose or Rosemary or Rosalie, etc and call her Posy as a nickname.

I’m not a fan of either of them, honestly. What about Poppy maybe?

I think I may have lured my husband into the name Posy, but spelt Posie so it’s closer to Rosie.
That way we all win, and I didn’t even really have to compromise!
Posie Beatrice Laine is due on August 4th, thank you to everyone who commented.
