Hi, I like the name Sarai for my little girl, but my friend said it should be pronounced Suh-ray. I’ve always pronounced it and have hear it pronounced Suh-rye. Can both be right?

This name seems to be pronounced many different ways. Suh-rye, suh-ray, suh-ree, sa-ra-ee: these are all ways I have come across, depending on what language the speaker grew up with, and the preference of their parents. I have heard suh-RYE the most, and live in the USA midwest.

I’ve only heard it pronounced Suh-rye. Like the pronunciation of Kai.

I too have only heard it pronounced Suh-rye. I prefer Suh-rye to Suh-ray. I have a niece named Sariah Suh-rye-uh. I think they are both beautiful names.

Suh-rye is the hebrew pronunciation and I believe is the correct way of saying it. If you prefer Su-ray then go for it, but I personally think it will most often be mispronounced.
