Alternative Spellings vs. For Raleigh(r-all-lee) vs. For A Boy?

We recently watched the movie Pacific Rim and fell in love with one of the main character’s name, Raleigh Becket. We have now decided to name our son Raleigh(pronounced r-all-lee) but my husband says that the spelling is a little too girly with the Leigh spelling even though it’s the way it’s spelled in the movie. So we are on the hunt for alternative spellings for the name. My mom suggested Rally but it would always be probounced like the word "rally" instead. We are at a loss here. I don’t want to be included in the trend of -leigh names, especially not with a son instead of a daughter, but we can’t think of any other way to spell Raleigh. Please help us! ~Miranda&Sean

I would definitely spell it Raleigh. Let ending names are not all girly plus all the girl’s got the names from boy names. My friend just named her daughter Devin. So. If you like it don’t worry too much. No boy name is completely safe these days

Lee ending names aren’t just for girls.

Sir Walter Raleigh comes to mind. Plenty manly enough as is. I like it.

Raleigh north Carolina is what I think. I think that’s the best spelling.

I really like Rawley.I think that looks masculine and is the best option to avoid any pronunciation confusion.
The only other way I can think of would be Rolly and that might be OK too but I’d still be a bit concerned that people would mispronounce that one as row-lee like roly-poly or the beginning of Roland.

Definitely Rawley.

I guess Rawley would work best if you’re sure you want to change the spelling. Raleigh looks the most handsome to me though.

I just don’t want our son to be teased by other boys because he has a more feminine spelling. We know little girls named Brayleigh, Kayleigh, Kinleigh and Marleigh who will be close in age to him so we don’t want his name to look girly. My husband hates the trend of boy names on girls and he doesn’t want it to look like we are putting a girl name on our son. Rawley is very interesting and I am concered about the beginning or Rolly. Raleigh is actually a unisex name but used way more on boys. Thanks for your thoughts! ~Miranda&Sean

I know a Rawley Tate and Rawlings Grant, both boys, and very handsome/sporty.

Not really a fan of spelling "place" names wrong. I guess Rawley but to me it looks like a child learning to spell and just sounding a word out and spelling it phonetically.

I’d stick with the original spelling. I don’t find it the list bit feminine.
