Thoughts On vs. The Name vs. Maude

So I recently found the name Maude when looking for baby girl names, and I kind of fell in love with it. It is an old German name meaning "powerful battler", and is a variant of the name Matilda (which I don’t like.) So I am a bit torn about it. I love the spelling, and the meaning, but I am not sure how it would go over naming a child it. Will people not know how to pronounce it? -It is pronounced "mawd"- Is it too old fashioned? Is it an ugly name? I am really torn! Please help!

The name Maude is very old-fashioned but old-fashioned names are making a huge comeback these days.
I personally adore the name....and I don’t think anyone will have issues with saying the name.

I like Maude. It’s simple, classic, and elegant. Maude Apatow makes it young.

I like it and agree with Poster 3 that Maeve is another great option along the same lines!

Love the sweet vintage charm of this name. It is totally ready for a comeback. There is a quiet elegance about Maude that will wear well. I have Maudes in my own family tree who were often called Maudie.

I love it, the only mispronunciation I can think of it’s ’’Maudy’’ and even then it sounds like a nickname for it, and you just correct them and that’s it. Great meaning also.

Not fond of the name. Too old sounding and frumpy.

Poster #5 here again. I meant that my relatives were sometimes called Maudie as a cute nickname. Not that they were mistakenly called Maudie.

I don’t really like it, it doesn’t sound very pretty to me.
However, that’s not a reason for you not to use it! I know of at least 2 baby Maudes born in the last 10 months (I live in the UK). So I don’t think she’ll be teased about it and I think it’s very easy to pronounce.

I love the name Maude. It’s a very old name that hasn’t gotten a lot of use recently, but I have met young Maude’s before. I love that it’s clearly feminine without being uber girly. Also, I think the pronunciation is pretty obvious.

It makes me think of the movie Harold and Maude lol which is a weird movie but the old lady named Maude had the most enlightened personality.
