personally i like Reilly for a boy and Riley for a girl, it just makes it easier to distinguish between genders, but at the same time i’m a fan of unisex names, it’s complicated lol, some names i like on both and some names i think are more suited to boys or girls, don’t know anyone with this name though

I had a little boy in my class named Reilly, cute, but also had a little girl named Riley. They say the names that they start using for girls usually go all girl, because people will not use them for their boys at that point. My neighbor had a boy named Jamie, he is probably 30 now, and he did not want to be called Jamie because they started naming girls Jamie, when he was a teenager.. He is called Jay now

I like Riley and Reilly for boys. I don’t like it for a girl much but if you name a girl Riley spell it Rylie or Rylee.

I really like it for a boy, but I’m worried that my son would have to share his name with girls. Is it really popular for girls?? Or more popular for boys? I hate that so many boys’ names are being used on girls...the other day, I heard of a little girl being named Andrew!!! I think it’s terrible! Do you think that if I used Reilly for our son that he would be teased for having a girl’s name???

No because it is a boys name. There is nothing feminine about Reilly. It’s a last name turned first name. I like it for a boy. When I hear Reilly I picture a boy. It is not girly.

You are right, they are using them all for the girls these day, not fair to take the good ones, I do know at least 6 girls named Riley, Rylee

I know both....but spelled differently as others are stating. I still think it’s Boy enough not to make a big issue about it. I like unisex names, so not a big deal to me anyway.

My son is Seth Reilly. I was very disappointed when I found out my sister-in-law is planning on naming her daughter Rylee. Some names are unisex.

I don’t know any, but I’ve seen several girls on tv named that. I can’t stand the name for either boys or girls. Its not an endearing name at all. Makes me think of the car part store.

I’m naming my son Reilly... It’s cute for a girl too I’d spell it Rylie... but I still think it’s masculine enough for a boy.

I think that Riley is a great BOYS name. There are so many beautiful girl names, that I am disappointed to hear girls use it now. There is nothing pretty about it. A cute little Tom Boy maybe, but not a beautiful little girl.

Interesting how strongly some feel about this name. Riley sounds like many girls names. I can understand that traditionally many surnames in prominent families became first names for boys. Yet, lately the trend is to give girls these family names as well. I don’t think it’s only a male name.

Had a girl in my class named Ryeleigh; she was adorable. However, we named our son Riley, a family surname & after a great grand uncle, years before the name became popular for girls.

I find that many people at my school are called Riley (including myself) and it is pretty much equal- 3 girls and 2 boys. Same spelling. I'd say it's unisex.

I'm a male and mine is spelled "Reilly," so I might be biased.

I named my son Riley. I understand that is the English spelling, whereas Reilly is the Irish spelling. We are a bit more English than Irish. Anyway, Riley is almost 13. He is super tan,sun-bleached /beach bum hair, a competitive USA swimmer, athletic and smart EVERYONE tells me his names just suits him perfectly!!! It was the Best name choice...he get compliments on it all the time!!!
