Stephen is pronounced like Stefen not Steven where I am from and i would assume most places. So if youre going for steve-en rather than stef-en then Steven gets my vote but I do prefer Stephen with proper pronunciation

In the UK at least Stephen is still pronounced Steve-en, I assume it’s also true in American.

I prefer the spelling Steven anyway.

Stephen is pronounced the same as Steven by everyone I know. I like the look of Stephen best. Either way, it’s a good name.

In the US, both are pronounced the same. We were going to use this name for our first son. At the time, I was insisting on Steven for the simple reason that I was thinking ahead to when he started reading and the graph/sound correlation seemed better. We ended up using a different name. I have to admit, I’ve always liked the way it looks with the -ph- better. My vote is with Stephen.
