Liesel vs. Liesl

So I have loved the sound of the name Liesel/Liesl since I first saw the sound of music eons ago. Now I’m having a girl and my partner and I actually agree that we love the sound of it, but we’re not really fond of how it looks on paper. Either spelling really. So we were thinking of using as a nickname. Any ideas what official name she could have that has the nickname Liesel?

Lucky, my husband and I agreed that we wouldn’t name any of our kids after movies or tv shows, but I am close to be using Julie as a girl name because she is my all time favorite star..

I too am a huge fan of Sound of music, and was so sadden to hear about Charmian Carr who played Liesel die. 😕 Good luck..

None of these are traditionally full names for Liesel/Liesl except for Anneliese and Lieselotte, but I think they could work for full names anyway. They might not all be your style, but I thought I’d mention all that I could think of just in case:

-Alicia (ah-lee-see-ah)
-Anneliese/Annalise/Annalisa
-Aracelis
-Callista/Calista
-Charlize
-Elise/Elisa
-Elysia
-Felicia
-Feliciana
-Lieselotte
-Lilias/Lileas
-Lisanne/Lysanne (lee-SAHN-eh)
-Lisette (lee-ZET)
-Marlies (mar-lees)
-Odalis/Odalyse

I think it would be confusing to your little girl to be called Liesel as a nickname, but have a completely different given name, even if the name has the same long "e" sound. When she is learning to write her name, which would she learn? If you love the sound of Liesel, I say go with it. Not sure which is the official German spelling of it. If Liesel reminds you of "diesel," then go with Liesl.
