Bellamy Is a vs. Boy name vs. Girl name

Do you see Bellamy as a boy or girl name? My husband and I love Bellamy as our son’s name, but many people have said it sounds like a girl name. It makes me worry about him being teased in the future. Comment your thoughts and vote, please. Thanks!

Boy. Makes me think of the Bellamy Brothers.

I’ve literally never heard it for a boy. Sorry, but I think it’s very feminine.

I see Bellamy as both. It is categorized as a boy name but I’ve recently met a 2 year old girl with the name, although the only reason why her parents chose it for her was because they wanted to call her Bella but didn’t like very many other names with it in them. But Bellamy is actually a boy name, it is a French boy name. So it definitely does work for a boy!

I think girl one because Bella and two because of the actresss Bellamy Young

Never heard it a first name before until recently and only on girls. The Bell and Amy parts make sound feminine in my opinion.

When I hear this name, I think of Bellamy Blake from The 100, and he’s a guy.

Bellamy is a BOY name. I don’t think he is going to get made fun of. It is a name that needs to be used on the gender it is supposed to be used on otherwise it will become feminine like Avery and Taylor have. Plus Bellamy is a surname which usually surnames are masculine already. Despite it having Bella in it I don’t find anything feminine or girly about it.

If you look on "Ancestry.com" you will find this:
Bellamy Name Meaning
English and Irish (of Norman origin), French: literal or ironic nickname meaning ‘fine friend’, from French beau ‘fair’, ‘handsome’ (bel before a vowel) + ami ‘friend’
So the fact that it has "bell" in it is only because it comes before a vowel which would be A but it in fact is actually "beau" which is masculine. It is oerfectly fine for a boy!

Bellamy is a masculine name bel ami=fine friend. I’ve seen the television show The 100 and there is a very strong masculine character named Bellamy Blake. Bellamy Young the actress uses Bellamy as her stage name, a tribute combination of her own name, Amy, and a family friend, Bill. Surnames, like Bellamy, are historically reserved as masculine names, but these days girls get them too. I might call is unisex, but I definitely prefer it on a boy.

If you love the name, use it. It should not matter what strangers on here or anywhere else tells you. It shouldn’t even matter what people you know say if you love the name. I do not think your son would be teased, I think many would be interested and intrigued when he introduced himself. It’s a very strong name. Good luck!

Bellamy is a SURNAME it does not belong as anyone’s given name, it’s particularly hideous on a girl

We named our son Bellamy after first hearing it in the 100. But we researched it first. Supposably it's a French Surname so it really isn't feminine or masculine. That said… there are many famous male Bellamy's with it as a set name. I would concur that Bell, Bella, and Amy are feminine but that is not the name we are talking about. Bellamy I'm full sounds more unisex leaning masculine to me. I use to here Bell and think beauty and the beast. Now I say Bell to my son all the time and think of Alexander Bell the inventor of the telephone.
