Nickname Joey for Jonah? vs. Yes vs. No

I'm not fond of Joseph. But my husband loves it. Actually just loves the name Joey. So we compromised with Jonah. But I'm wondering if Joey as a nn will still make sense. •Kayla

It sounds perfect to me! Nicknames do not have to derive directly from the full name, but Joey does in this case due to the Jo at the beginning of Jonah.

I don't see why not.

Both Joey and Jonah have the Jo in them so that makes it work.

Why wouldn't it make sense? It's no different than using Joey as a nn for Joseph.

Joey to Joseph makes sense. I just didn't know if Jonah would also work. No need to be rude poster 4 and if you weren't being rude, to me it looks rude. I ask this because the family thinks it doesn't go. And yes I get it starts with Jo so Joey makes sense.
Thank you guys. We will be using it.
