Ginette vs. or change to vs. Jeanette

Our last poll was a tie. My late SIL was named Ginette. (pronounced just about the same as Jeanette.) We want to name our daughter after her. Should we keep the same spelling, even though its not the "conventional" spelling. We also like the idea of the nickname Ginny if we keep the spelling. But we also like Jeanie as a nickname for Jeanette. thanks

If it were for a middle name I would definitely keep the original spelling. But the fact that your daughter is going to have to live with it her whole life, constantly having to correct people, I'd go with Jeanette.

Though I would recommend using it as a middle name in general, that way your daughter won't be compared to or have to live up to the name. She would have her own, unique and individual name but have a loving memory of her late aunt as her middle name

That's a toughie. It definitely will be easier on her to have her name spelled conventionally. However, with it honoring someone, it's hard to just change it. I think it's a question of if Jeanette feels like it has the same sentimental value as Ginette for you. I can see some saying it's worth it for the headaches it would save, and some saying that it just isn't the same, you know? This will require some soul searching! If it were me, I'd just change it, but I'm notorious for being terrible at sentiment! Good luck with your decision!

I like the name both ways. Since her namesake is Ginette, I'd spell it that way. Ginny is cute.
