Not a fan. I'd be more open to it for a boy though.

I live near Mount Rainier. And while I love names (with associations ) from nature I still see this one as all boy. Prince Rainier of Monaco and a local beer brand. Can't get them out of my head. Also, the nerd in me knows the name is based on Ragnar, as in Ragnar Lothbrook of "Vikings" fame.

Could I suggest Lorraine, nn Rain? Lorraine is a place in France (wait, no, Germany, wait, France . . . .) Good luck! :0)

I am not sure how I feel about the name Lorraine. I kind of like it, but I don't love it. Thanks for the suggestion!

Just Raine is lovely, but Rainier is all boy to me. Maybe as a MN it could work. Good luck!

I would like just Rain or Raini/Rainy a lot better. Rainier just doesn't make a very good name for a person to me.

I like Rainier for a boy, but it is a cool girl's name, though I think Rayna would be a great alternative!

I know this is an old thread. But I'm posting for those who may be reading now and thinking of naming their baby Rainier. I'm a 24 year old woman and my name is Rainier! However my whole life I have gone by "Rainy" because people never seemed to be able to pronounce my name right. Now that I'm an adult I do love and I'm proud of my name!

Thank you Rainiervillarreal! We are wanting to name our little girl Rainier (Rainy as a cute nickname) but I was worried about all the things you addressed and I am so happy to hear you are proud of your name! I want her to be proud of it too and not just wonder why we didn't go with something more mainstream.
