Sebastian vs. Sebastien
Can't decide between the traditional Spanish (Sebastian) or French (Sebastien) spellings! Our daughter's name is French, so I tend to lean toward Sebastien, but Sebastian is more common. I assume most people will automatically spell it Sebastian. What do you think?

The issue I see is that it's not that they are two spellings of the same name; it's that they are two different names pronounced different ways. Which way are you planning on pronouncing it?

Either way we'll pronounce it like Sebastian. Living in America that's how everyone will pronounce it even if we did spell it Sebastien.

I'd go with Sebastian since that's the pronunciation people will use.

In that case I'd go with Sebastian. I have nothing more than a high school French education from almost 10 years ago and I would pronounce Sebastien differently. Sebastian is more straight forward!

I understand your concern about it being mispelled all the time, but just saying "Sebastien with an E-N" will clear that up. My name is Rachel, spelled the traditional way, and I get Racheal, Rachael, Rachelle, Raychel, Rachele and Raechel ALL THE TIME. I would encourage you to go with the French spelling if you want the name to seem French next to your daughter's. But if you are ok with sacrificing the French look, so it's easier to pronounce, then go with the American spelling.
