how to anglicize Niamh vs. Neve? vs. Neeve?

hello. We love the name Niamh (neev -long e), we found it on this sight actually. However, we aren't Irish and we live in the U.S so we want to anglicize it. We originally though Neve would be fine, but a few family members have said that that is "nev" (and my MIL said nev-vay??). So then is Neeve better? Or possibly Neva/Neeva? Or just leave it as Niamh?

Just leave it as Niamh. The name isn't exclusive to the Irish!

I don't know how they messed up saying Neve, it looks self explanatory! I would go with that spelling

I pronounced Neve nev until I came on this site as it was the first time I'd seen the name and learned it was pronounced neeve. I called Neve Campbell the actress, nev Campbell for years and then saw that it was neeve after someone posted Neve on a poll and gave the pronunciation.

I would spell it Neve as Neeve looks a bit strange to me. Like myself, people will get onto the pronunciation. GL

^ I was referring to Neve Campbell was the first person I'd ever known with the name Neve.

One famous person with a bad spelling / pronunciation can really mess up a great name. (I'm looking at you, parents of Keira Knightly.)

Niamh is Anglicized as Neve and has been as long as there has been an English form for it. Perhaps Ms Campbell's parents were confusing it with the (gorgeous) Spanish name, Nieves, "NYEH-ves."

So Niamh or Neve. Neeve is as odd looking to me as Eeve or Steeve would be as an alternative spellings of Eve and Steve. OK. Granted. I'm a loon about names. This one is near to my heart as I would name a daughter Niamh is she magically appeared. And my family is Irish (U.S.) So take my comments with a grain of salt. Good luck! :0)
