Carlisle Nickname Carly vs. For a Girl
What do you think of Carlisle for a girl? I am looking for nice, long, pretty names that can be shortened to Carly or Carrie and Carlisle was suggested to me. I know that Carly and Carrie are names in their own right, but I want something longer and flowy because our surname is Ott.
The Top Baby Name is...

Um, no. I would NEVER use Carlisle for a girl! Carlisle is only a boy's name. Period. How about:
Caroline
Clarice (my personal favorite)
Corinna
Corliss
Charlotte
Charis

It's interesting, the Lyle sound is more boy to me, but it's not a name heard often for a first name. I honestly would prefer this over the BNOG trend. Carlise would also be nice. I do think of Belinda Carlisle of the Go-Gos too.

What part of the name is appealing to you? Is it the Carly or the Lyle?

I actually love unisex names, but Carlisle might be pushing it a teeny bit. I also associate it with Twilight now, haha. But Carly's adorable. Other ideas:
Carmyn
Carsyn
Carmody
Caralyn
Caren
Carlene
Good luck! :)

Carlisle is not pretty under any circumstances. It should never be used on a girl, sorry. Carolina or Caroline would be pretty and either one can have Carly and Carrie as nicknames.

Carlyle nn Carly (or Lyla)
Carolina Ott would sound really nice. I know a Caroline that goes by Carli and a Caroline that goes by Carrie so Carolina can definitely have either of thise nicknames as well!

Oh thanks for that Guest. The BNOG trend makes me very sad. It's like nobody wants their daughters to be girls anymore!

Thank you guys. I like the suggested Carina, Caroline, Carolina, Charlotte, Charis, and Carlisa. I know Carlisle is a stretch for a girl. That is why I was asking for outside opinions. I really appreciate the feedback. Any other suggestions?

I'm not a fan of Carlisle, especially on a girl. I think she would frequently be labeled as a boy based on her name. I like the suggestions of Carina, Caroline, Carolina, and Charlotte for you. I would also suggest Clarissa, Carissa, Charlotta, Carla, Charlize, Charissa, and Carola.
