Gggggg - ... Evidently they stopped listening to that stuff? Just because they want their family to help them doesn't mean they're giving them full authority over their names. Don't be so passive aggressive. It's extremely common for families to be involved in baby naming.

The problem with changing the spelling is that you still need the same pronunciation. I can't think of any improvement on the spelling Lorelei or any viable alternative. Laureli would be pronounced Laura-lie for example.

If the TV show bugs you, why don't you go ahead with the traditional spelling? The Gilmores misspelled it Lorelai.

^ JJJ, poster two has a good point. Why should the MIL or any other family member other than the Parents have a say as to what a child is named?! I didn't read poster two's comment as "passive aggressive", she made her point clearly (eyeball may not have been necessary), but I have seen you pick fights with several posters in the comment section on here today. I believe you're just looking to feed the flames or make something out of nothing. I read this poll's intro the same way Poster two did so stop raising an alarm where's there's no fire.

Ok Typing error. We are using this name even though she's vocal about hating it. Same as I'm here go get opinions of total strangers, family opinions esp our babies grandmother matter to a point. I'm actually ok with Laura-Lie pronunciation honestly tbh. Sounds about same to me.

Oops, for some reason I thought you were using it as her mn. Even with it being her first name (especially) I'd spell it Lorelai.
