Isla vs. Aila vs. Iyla

Spelling help please! We are set on the name Isla (pronounced Eye-lah for anyone unfamiliar) but have been looking into alternate spellings. As far as I know, Isla is the traditional spelling but I have seen it spelled several different ways. Our top choices are in the poll but also on the list are: Islah Ila Ilah Ilya Aisla Eila Let us know what you think or what you would use. Thank you so much for all the help xoxo

Isla is best, but I do like Eila too. Ila wouldn't be bad either. I would pronounce Aila like Ayla. Aisla would not be Isla either.

Isla will cause the least amount of confusion. It is getting increasingly popular so I doubt she will have any troubles. If you are really worried, Ila would be your next best spelling.

Isla is the name of my neice, and nobody ever pronounces it right..I would steer away from it if you can..

Isla is pretty. Please do not try to dumb down the name with alternate spellings. It ends up looking ignorant in the end,if and only if, your main concern is pronunciation.

Aila=aye-la
Iyla=looks like lyla (lila)
Ila=looks like like ill-uh
Ilya=looks like ill yuh
Aisla=guarantee you will get ayz-lah

Stick to Isla.

Just fyi - Aila (Finnish), Ayla (Turkish), Eila (Medieval German & Scandinavian) & Ila (Sanskirt) are all legitimate names & pronounced like Isla, as well. GL!

Eyla? If not than Isla or Iyla, which at first glance looks like Lyla....
