This shouldn't even be a thing, my name is Vincent and I grew up a Vinny my entire life. If you look back at history most people named Vincent who were nicknamed Vinny have always included a Y! It wasn't until the later years of the 20th century that the "IE" became a thing. Let's not reinvent the wheel here.

If you are Italian-American I would go with the "ie" as there is no Y in the Italian alphabet. "ie" is also how famed sweat hog Vinnie Barbarino spelled his name back in the day

We spell our son's nickname Vinnie because he's our Vinnie the Pooh :)

I love the name Vinnie. It's my name, and Vinny doesn't look that good. Also, both versions are gender-neutral. Like, me, I am a boy and my name is Vinnie. Like, me, I am an and my name is Vinny. How do you like the way that sounds. Vinny doesn't seem right, but Vinnie does.
