Éadaoin vs. Étaín/Édaín vs. Aideen
All three of these are pronounced "ay-DEEN." Éadaoin is the modern Irish spelling, where Étaín/Édaín is the original spelling of the Irish sun goddess. Aideen is completely anglicized, which I don't necessarily mind, but I'm anxious she'll get mistaken for an Aiden (I know that seems little in perspective, especially since Éadaoin is not exactly user-friendly). What do you think? And thoughts on the name?
The Top Baby Name is...

I like Aydeen spelling; that way you wouldn't have to worry about issues.

I agree with the first poster. Aydeen seems more feminine and pretty to me too. Good luck!

I really hate the way Aydeen looks— sorry. I'm only considering the poll options.

I am sure if you use traditional spellings new acquaintances will ask her how to pronounce her name. She may get tired of that but once people her it I am sure they'll remember it. Her classmates will quickly get used to it. These days there are many children from all over the world that it is normal to inquire how they spell and pronounce their name. Lots of made up names with very unusual spellings too.

I'm usually one for more traditional spellings, but in this case i do prefer Aideen. i don't think it'll get mistaken for Aiden too often and if it does, it's easily corrected, and i think it's easier and preferable than having to explain any of the other spellings.

I went to school (in the US) with an Aideen whose family had just moved from Ireland. This is how she spelled it, at least in America. I think accents can be tricky, at least when typing. Obviously you figured out how to do it for this poll, but I don't know how to easily do that myself. If the accent gets left off by someone who can't/doesn't write the name with the accent, would that be acceptable to you or would it change the name significantly or be a source of irritation? It's not something I couldn't learn if I was your friend, teacher, etc. Just thought you might want to consider how you would feel about the accents being omitted. That might help you in determining what you want to do.

I also like Aydeen best but since that's out I'd pick Aideen.
My daughter is 14 and her name is Aydeen. She get's Aiden constantly. It's such a pretty name but she's sick of it because she is always called Aiden. You would think the double EE's would be a hint :/
