Saphira vs. Sapphira
I know the pronunciation "sa-fy-ra" won the poll but my husband and I like "sa-fear-ah" better. It also appears to be the way most people say it per online polls that have been conducted on how others pronounce this name.
So I'm wondering now on spelling... does "Sapphira" make you want to say "sa-fy-rah"? Does Saphira make you want to say "sa-fear-ah"?
Thanks for any feedback!

I'd give longer than a couple hours on a poll before you decide on a winner. But it seems your mind is already made up. I looked up the pronunciation for Saphira and they pronounce it the way you want. But, that does not mean she won't have to correct them. But, yes according to one site, Saphira is pronounced the way you are looking for. Again, she may have to correct the pearson she is speaking to and it may depend on the area. That being said, my daughter is dealing with the same issue of correcting people. She is 7 and her name is Madeline, and she often gets the pronunciation of Madelyn instead of Madeline (line). Good luck

Honestly I have never heard it pronounce sa-fear-ah. Maybe it is a regional thing.

The spelling doesn't matter to me, personally, I would pronounce the name as sa-fy-rah either way. Also, there is a girl named Saphira (spelled this way) (pronounced sa-fy-rah) in my son's kindergarten class), and my oldest (6th grade), has a classmate named Sapphira (spelled this way), and pronounced sa-fy-rah.

I would say either one like Sa-fear-a. If you are really concerned about it, maybe consider spelling it Sophira? When people's brains start to read the word 'sapphire,' they might naturally go with that 'fire' sound, but when they start to recognize 'Sophie' or 'Sophia,' they use a 'fee' sound.

Or Sophera, Saphera, Safera? Maybe the e helps?

Sapphira and Saphira are both sah-FEE-rah. You'd need Saphyra to get sah-FYE-rah (also, an odd pronunciation…?). I've met one Sapphire, which is of course SAFF-ire, but adding the a changes the pronunciation.
It's like Mila and Myla. Mila is said MEE-la, but if you want MY-la, you exchange the i for a y.

I would have said Sah-fear-a. I voted Saf-eye-ah on the poll as that's what I prefer. But go with what you love!!

The "fear" sound is how its always pronounced where i live.
I prefer spelling with one 'p' makes it more like a name and less like a gemstone
