If you look up Matthew at behindthename .com you'll see a ton of variants. The Norwegian form is spelled Matteus. When you click on Matteus the listed pronunciation looks pretty close ("maht-TEH-uys").

Mateus is listed as the Portuguese form, but not pronunciation guide. I'm guessing it's also similar to what you are looking for. There may be more options. Those were just the ones that looked the easiest.

Maybe Mateus. That looks like "ma-tay-us" Mateos to me looks like "ma-tay-ohs"
On a girl, I've seen it spelt Mattea. So maybe even Mateas?
Overall I think Mateus or Matteus would be nice.
